The Industrial Revolution gave so many new jobs in the factories to people like me. The factories had so many new machines that could produce goods at a much faster rate. They needed workers to run these machines which gave jobs to not only men but to us women and children too.

Workers were paid minimum wages and us women and children were paid even lower. Our shifts were six days a week and 12 hours each day. We had to obey every order and rule otherwise we were punished. The bosses would constantly tell us that "everyone is replaceable" and if you disobeyed they would fire you and have your job replaced. The machines also let off so much smoke and steam that the factories were constantly filled with it.

Negative: Child Labor

The Industrial Revolution caused a spike in child labor. Big factories like the one I worked in needed workers so they hired children. These children were usually from families of low income so the factories could pay these children almost nothing and if anyone complained they would be fired. These children were stuck working hard jobs for very little pay and there was nothing they could do about it. These children's hands were very tiny so they were used for hard-to-reach places inside the factory. Children were also used because they were less likely to go on strike or complain than us adults.

Factories started to expand and many began to make the same goods as each other. This allowed us to have a choice and figure out which businesses and providers were the right fit for our lives. This also meant we didn't have to rely on one single business. This took away some of the power away from factories and gave it to us.

Factories let off so much smoke and pollution into the air, making breathing difficult for those of us who lived close by. Many immigrants migrated to the U.S. in search of jobs however this caused many overcrowded apartments and houses. This overcrowding led to disease and death. There was also constant raw sewage and chemicals in the lakes and streets of our city.
