This example shows that everybody has a purpose and just because you differ from the norm, you shouldn’t be an outcast and feel bad for your existence. At the beginning of Amanda's life, she apologizes to her father because she can’t play baseball. Throughout her many relationships with friends, Grant, and her relatives she realizes that the only person she must please is herself. This book can help others accept themselves and avoid allowing other people’s opinions to affect your personality.

When Amanda was younger her father forced her (him at the time) to play baseball, to go to boys scout, and other activities he considered normal for boys. He wasn’t able to face Amanda for who she is and decided to leave her. When Amanda moved back they began to grow a closer bond and Amanda’s father became more accepting, he realized who she was and not who he was trying to make her become. This book can help other fathers, mothers, relatives, friends, etc learn about others in their lives and how their lives aren’t that different. This book can help others cope and accept transgender people because of who they are.

It is important to accept others while recognizing what may be inappropriate. This book can educate non-transgender readers. Education plays a huge role in misjudgment, being educated about social topics will aid others to be more accepting around people who are different.

Many trans people have felt corned they’ve witnessed fear and shame in people’s eyes because they may fit outside the norm. Young adult books can help others to relate and feel comfortable with their selves because others are going through similar phases in their lives. In the book, Chloe thought she was alone until she met Bee who helped her. People shouldn’t have to feel alone, yet they should feel proud and feel accepted for who they are and not what others conceive.

I believe that trans representation throughout young adult books is beneficial to transgender people. It helps transgender people relate and cope with themselves. It can also bring acceptance and provide information to all the non-trans readers. Having a character that people can personally relate to is what makes a book great. It is important for everyone to have a similar experience when reading.
