         <title>Collaborative Classroom</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>A video link below describes how students work together to solve problems, and engage with meaningful discussions to deepen their understanding and critical thinking. I utilize this strategy with every class but it does not always work for everyone.<br>Student X - was diagnosed with ASD (Austism Spectrum Disorder). During Science labs, students were grouped together to collaborate and complete work. This would often lead to high levels of frustration, behavioral outputs and heightened anxiety for Student X. A study carol was placed into the classroom for an independent place for Student X, and has been gradually be replaced by a desk to allow to maintain some independent space during this time. Slowly we have been allowing Student X to engage in group work at his own pace and at his discretion.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Long-Term Assignments</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I often assigned projects for students to complete independently,&nbsp; but there was an increasing lack of completion/effort, missed deadlines and communication breakdowns, especially with major course projects. This was a mismatch for a majority of students so the teaching style was changed to suit.<br>Now major projects assigned to students are given an outline in advance of the strand being taught. This is taken home for parent/guardian signature and as the specific strand is taught, information is collected and maintained within the outline along the way. This ensures that all steps are covered and communication for all concepts discussed. Student accountability and achievement increased and a beneficial resolve for all.<br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Behavioral Expectations</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br></div><div>“Clearly stated expectations convey to students what teachers want. In addition, they tend to guide </div><div>student behaviour and strengthen teacher monitoring.” Jeff Sprague and Annemieke Golly, Best Behavior: Building Positive Behavior Support in Schools.<br><br>Classroom expectations are always reviewed and students participate in class discussions as to why we as as group together create and follow rules within the classroom and school.<br>Student Y came to the school from Section 23 programming, which provides service for students unable to attend regular or special education classes within a community school.  <br>The classroom expectations and were outlined but due to the learning style of Student Y, he could not manage the classroom for extended periods. With consultations with our school Behavioral Support team, a behaviour IEP and programming has outlined strategies to assist this student and the transition from Section to regular classroom, by understanding the learning style and incorporating this into the teaching style.</div>]]></description>
