In contemporary movements, recognition is demanded since it is linked to identity. As we negotiate our identity with others socially through dialogue and interaction, recognition is really important to our identity. If there is an absence of recognition, it can hinder self-esteem and understanding of self. Thus, Taylor discusses the following are important in the political sphere:

It relates to social conflicts triggered by disrespect or injury. Axel argues recognition (like Taylor) is relevant in identity and self-realization. However, there are 3 spheres of interaction that are connected to recognition and are needed to develop a positive attitude. 

When recognition is denied, it justifies social and political struggles, as it might indicate an injustice is taking place.

Nancy Frase - Binary relation between Recognition and Redistribution
This theory is more centered in distribution (how it is handled in the market within a hierarchy-differentiated system), as lack of recognition is linked to discrimination, as it results in the denial of rights or inclusion in social interaction. Fraser argues that recognition and justice are connected. If a group is not socially recognized, it is usually followed by cultural and economic injustice. Nancy also argues that economic and cultural injustice are linked, as one heavily influences the other and vice-versa.
Like the two previous theories, recognition is also linked to self-realization.

Peace Initiative
They argue that in order to achieve peace, the media is needed, as they need to relate necessary and important information to mobilize shared efforts. 
In conflicts, the desire for peace is not recognized, but silenced. In order to achieve a resolution, positive change must be made through the movement and actions of a large group of people.
