The book that I picked is called "THE RIDE OF HER LIFE" and was written by Elizabeth Letts. I chose this book because I already don't like reading books but especially nonfiction books because it's hard to find fun, good, interesting nonfiction books so when i heard that there was one about a lady riding her horse across the USA it sounded like the perfect book for me. It sounded interesting and I love all animals but especially horses. This story is mainly focused on Annie Wilkins, 63 year old female, who had lived on the same family farm her whole life. She had lost everything including, family, money, and health. She was diagnosed with two years to live so she planned to trip to California to see the pacific ocean and find work before she passes away. She was old with mostly gray hair, multiple layers of clothes/mostly men, and was careful, kind, smart, and always stayed true to herself.

The Story starts a few months before November 8th, 1954 in Minot,ME. She left for her adventure on November 8th, 1954 to see the Pacific Ocean. This story takes place though many seasons and the era after the vietnam war and before the civil rights movement. This was a Era of great development throughout the USA with things like Cars,Roads, Tvs, railroads and much more. People from this time period were more welcoming compared to now. They had just starting make cars but still had horse stables that Annie was able to stop by. They had gotten done with the Vietnam war and were still recovering. These advancements and kind people helped annie by having places to stay but also having to be careful for cars on the road and her ability to become famous through tv. The place throughout this story was constantly changing. She went from Minot,ME and made it to North Hollywood,CA. She had seen all sorts of cities but also little towns but that didn't stop her from making it to California.

I believe that the author was trying to give the message that "Don’t let anything ever stop you in what you want or believe in. No matter how hard things get." I know this because multiple parts in the story the author points out how Annie is so brave and how she didn't let anything get in her way. She never let people change her ways of thinking no matter what she was facing at the time. I think the author life impacted how and why they wrote the book because It impacted how the author sees the world. She says in the author's note that she traveled over 10,000 miles while doing research for this book and could see the old building and how old America used to be during Anna Wilkins' time. She wrote this book because she had always admired ordinary people who achieved extraordinary things so when she found about Anna Wilkins story she was very inspired.
