These people were basically the aristocrats of the Greek society.

They held more money than anyone else.

They were divided into these families or clans who controlled all of the political positions in the polis.

They were the lower second class citizens.

They also went by a much worse title, "dusty feet".

These were men who owned land however it was less productive and just overall not the good.

These people were engaged in manufacturing, trade, and commerce.

They were the working class in Greek society.

As they acquired their riches the artistoi made it to where in order to actually rise into power you need to be a landowner.

In Greek society women held very few right in comparison to men.

A woman's place was usually in the home and her job would be to take care and raise children.

Women citizens had to marry as a virgin and it would be set up by the father, who would choose the husband and accepted from him a dowry.

Greek society had a larger  proportions of laborers rather than slaves.

They were semi free workers who were wholly dependant on their employer.

They weren't property of a particular citizen and could not be sold as a slave.

Slaves were viewed as a necessity and perfectly normal part of daily city life. 

Slaves were acquired through war and conquest or kidnap and purchase.

It was believed that slaves were generally inferior to the Greeks.

Most Greek poleis would have a number of foreigners who were free, they were known as xenoi.

Most foreigners re-located from other parts of Greece,  the Mediterranean, and the Near East.

These foreigners had to register to become a citizen and because of this they became a recognized class known as the metics.

Young women were responsible for retrieving water from the local fountain house.

It was the responsibility of women to visit the tombs of family members.

The weaving of fabric and managing the household were also their responsibility.

In most ceremonies the correlation of woman's generative capabilities was very emphasized.

There were some ceremonies where both men and women could go however other ceremonies were restricted to women.

Girls between the age of five and puberty were selected to serve the goddess Artemis in her sanctuary.

Marriage usually took place at the age of fourteen or fifteen for a young women.

Marriage did not require the consent of the young women.

Young women were basically passed from the protection of the father to the husband.

Athena was able to resist marriage and motherhood to one day provide Greek heroes the advice they needed.
