This does not mean that women have no other function in life, but it does mean that women should be given every possible help to fulfil their duties within the family. 

The Catholic Church believes the importnace of this work is often overlooked by society, making it hardest for women to fulfil this role and that this is a mistake. 

For the Catholic Church, the roles of both men and women in the family are important as each contributes different qualities to the upbringing of children, and to the security and stability of the home. The role of the man in the family should be to provide for the needs of the family, protect the family, and teach by word and example. 

In Britain today, the majority of mothers work part/fulltime, often as it is necesarry for the families finances. Many accept that the roles within a family can vary depending on what is best for them. For example, in some families, it is better for the mother to work and the father to be at home. Increasing gender equality has meant that roles traditionally reserved for the women/men can be shared or switched.
