What is meant “things” is the death of the father’s son at war, or the manner in which he had died. It may also mean that the government is trying to create a false air of safety around the citizens, insuring that they feel secure and unwearable of the deleterious effects of the war that is taking place beyond the safety of their home.

This quote tells us about how the government went about the matter of a soldiers death/ malicious effects of war; they often lathered truth with coat and coats of sugar, not making citizens understand the severity of the situation, lest they breakdown or even protest against the government. This way, peace and calm is maintained outside the battlefield and the government is seen as decent by its citizens.

The effect of the the word’things’ reffers to all the hardship and suffering the son faces during the war. The fact that the son does not dare tell his fathers who is at home gives the impression that he is trying to disable his fathers from the pain of the truth. It also means that there is a level of lies to told to the people back home to keep them from the truth, creating a false picture in the eyes of the ones the soldiers hold dear. It portrays a feeling of sympathy and melancholy and the son is unable to tell his father the truth.

Soldiers who came back from the war, they go through a trauma that leaves them hopeless, upset, sorrowful and out of place for a certain period of time. The situation in a war really horrifying. Sometimes soldiers know when they are going to die at a certain point when the war has escalated to a higher and difficult level. People who are outside the war, do not know what is happening inside the war, and the family of the soldier, gets nervous, worried and panicked. The soldiers who are fighting in the war all had a family; Father, Mother, Brother, Sister, Wife, Son and Daughter. The family does not know if they will lose their Son, Brother, Husband, Father. The family will lose their beloved one. No matter what happens, in my opinion, war should be defined as annihilation of internal and external peace. So what I think that this quote means that when the son goes for war the father is not aware about the state the son is in and what the son is going through because of war. Stop causing wars and spread peace.

Thank you 😊
