On the first day of every semester he would have his class put into groups. Some of his classes would come in and sit with their friends, and when it got time to take the attendance  they didn't get into groups. So he kept repeating the attendance, when none of them moved. Pausch asked them why they still haven't moved to go sit with their group. He pretended to be irritated and told them they need to be in group by the time he got back and walked out of the class. When he returned they were in groups. From that day forward they came into class and sat with their groups. Pausch understood the importance of group work. He knew that a group could accomplish more than an individual. Families rely on each other for support and each individuals strengths. Pausch said the same was true in the work place. Several perspectives to solve problems is better than one.
