Setting goals and expectations at the beginning .

Having the sn pupils sit at the front of the class.
Letting the sit together if that's what they want.

Having everyone in class know that there is a student with special needs. Then they understand that he/she are not weird but special that think differently, and the rest of the class may offer help or treat them regularly.

I have an autistic Native speaker but he can't work in groups especially with girls.

What works best for me is building connection with the student and make him feel safe and counted, also integrating games in my lessons like blooket allow students with special needs to win and feel more confident.

I didn't have a good experience with SN integrated in my classes.

I once had two SN students in my 5 point class with a Sayaat. One of them struggled with the level and his mother insisted he stays in class. I invested so much time on this kid that in the end of the semester I felt I didn't give the needed attention to the regular kids. I felt they were deprived of what they should have accepted because of the SN kids.

In my experience the integrated students prefer not to feel special or different. They want to be treated like the others and to be tested like the others. So it is difficult to explain to them that being tested f&f will help them

I find it crucial to have some " ALONE TIME" with them before lesson, 2-3 minutes to get to know how they feel today, if something might effect the way they will behave/ learn today.. Make sure to reinforce every step of their progress

I taught a special needs class for the 1st time last year.

I was worried that I dont have the required skills since I have taught regaulr classes only.

Two years after I know that providing a safe space for the students and giving a listening ear to them is the key to connect to them and eventually bring about learning.

The group started as 7 students who are 3 pointers.

now one of them completed the 5 points bagrut

3 of them completeled 4 points bagrut.

I like to empower my SN students. Many of them are definitely high functioning and their contribution to class is meaningful. I give them an assignment that they can cope with and they present it in class. For example, one of them gave us a short presentation about a topic discussed in class. Another one participated in a short film as part of a group task. I find that many of our SN students can be wonderfully integrated in our classes.

I treat them as I would any other student. If they need more attention I give it if they need less I don't. However I give attention to all my students.

I find that it's best to be sensitive and have a personal connection with ld students. Go around the class and check how they are and be accommodating to their needs in that lesson.
