It's okay to feel good when you shop for clothes that will help you feel confident about yourself, but there is an internal contradiction if, say, you purchase them from chains that make use of cheap (i.e. usually female, even underage) labor on the level of production.

Liberal rights have dominated the discourse of women liberation, while radical shifts in the status quo and political economy of Filipino society remains at the fringe of women's movements. Thus, without that intersectional perspective that connects gender and class, the women's movement will not be able to forward that systematic and systemic change and emancipation.

Women who have grown in more traditional backgrounds that are more grounded in Philippine gender roles tend to assume more traditional ideas about feminism and empowerment. With that said, compared to many Asian countries, women's rights are better off in the Philippines, but many aspects such as catcalling and sexual harrassment are still very much tolerated in our society.
