It hits you with an event in the first chapter that makes me wonder what is going on exactly and to read more of it to find out. I could read the book for the rest of my class if I had a choice to since it's suspenseful and a somewhat mystery.

The first chapter centers around a quick dive into the life of a man who joined Scientology, while the second chapter relates the life story of L. Ron Hubbard. Because of the nature of the first two chapters, the writing style is mostly descriptive, relating broad narrative events back to the audience with frequent cutaways to quotes and excerpts from other works. For some this may not be a very engaging style of writing, but what keeps me interested is the actual content. The exploration into the psyche and life of Hubbard is some of the most utterly mesmerizing written work I've read in a while, and I'm very interested in seeing just how crazy things are going to get. Every sentence in the book has significant meaning and the word choice used by the Author definitely show the strong feeling that is going into it. So far, the narrator has been influenced by his father to be a marine because he is a warrior. to taken a trip to Africa and has almost been mugged. He's been asked by a man, going by the name of Jackson Ole Looseiya what he wants to be when he grows up. Instead of telling the truth he says he would like to be something significant. Which Looseiya responded with "Everything we do matters. Don't take what you have for granted. You can do something significant. But you know who makes that possible?" This question stunned him and he asked "What's that" "It's your parents." "oh yeah, of course" he replied. Looseyia responding with "No, you're not getting me. You have more opportunities than I can even dream. You have these because of them. You should treat them with more respect." The author's writing style matches with the theme of the book including a beach lifestyle. I was hooked almost instantly by the lack of information and the desire to find out more. I like detective shows and books and the story seems interesting and enticing so far because it starts with a mystery. Michael also adds a lot of detail in his writing which helps create an image in my head of what is happening in the story. It's a very realistic story about coming of age and a lot of highschool kids now a days can find a way to relate to it. This novel has LGBT characters, characters who are finding themselves or just anyone who is going through those awkward years of being a teenager. The author keeps this book going at a fast pace, but the author is clear on what is happening at every moment. The Football Hero is based off of a sixth grader named Ty who is convinced to try out for football by the coach because he is the fastest kid in sixth grade. He is a new student at this school, and the kids around him are making fun of him. The coach wants him to play as a wide reciever because the coach said that need some more speed at the wide reciever position. The quaterbacks keep throwing the ball behind Ty because he is much faster than the other recievers that the quaterbacks were throwing to. The quaterback throws a pass just behind Ty, but he makes an incredible catch. My first impression when reading this book was how it caught my interest by being based on a subject that I am interested in. The book is very descriptive and gives you information that is going to prepare you throughout reading the book. The book gives vivid details on Joe's life and how he ended up in the situation he is now with his conscience.

Going through and  reading the first chapter along with half of the second, I realized that my idea of the book was completely wrong. A small town has been flooded and I suppose from the young narrator's perspective, her entire world is actually ending.
