#1) Represents sharing a culture because of the multitude of cultures in Hawaii. How different the melting pot is in comparison to the mainland. Multicultural harmony, at first it was only the Japanese, then more and more ethnicity have played it for a mixing experience.
#2) Nature of the game is a silly game, something to dispute small problems. Personal levels everyone is friends and a system of self governance. Help to solve conflict and connect diverse cultures together.
#3) On the mainland people get more offended, games are not geared towards racism, but more of a celebration of diversity. The people on the islands have more of an open perspective because of their plantation experience and the fact that on the plantation every immigrant group was struggling, incentive to befriend one another.
#4) (question from Logan) Jokes are not supposed to be harmful, they are to be taken lightly. Therefore, jokes are not intended to harm anyone but create joy, laughter, community, and bonding. It is also dependent on how someone is willing to take it, and usually with jokes, there is no explicit harm or it should not be taken as offensive when hearing a joke, even if it is directed towards you. There is no harmful intention and should not be received as offensive. That is why people on the islands can take a joke, because we grew up listening to playing along to these jokes. It would be hard for a person who grew up on the islands to make jokes in the mainland.

Humor is a way to bring people together, and in Hawaii, it is done without a level of maliciousness and intent to hurt, that seems to be more common on the mainland. We in Hawaii tend to be easier going and more lax about it, as we do these jokes in a way to bond together and celebrate our differences in a way to make each other laugh.
