Colonel Carrington ordered Colonel Fetterman to help the people with 80 soldiers, which then Crazy Horse brought out 10 decoys on horse, which Carrington fired at. The decoys started to run around frantically. After the wood cutters were into the fort, Fetterman went to chase after the decoys. The natives than ambushed Fetterman's troops, fired nearly 40,000 arrows at the troops. The U.S. responded in places multiple forts along the plains the biggest being Fort Phil Kearny, where both Red Cloud and the Crazy Horse would then focus most their attacks onto the fort, often raiding supplies being brought to the fort. Along the many attacks Crazy Horse learned he could cause the soldiers to make a ambush if he got off his horse and acted defenceless. However on June 25th, Cluster who was supposed to wait for reinforcements to come, decided it would be best to fight the Indians with his 600 men. Crazy Horse heard of the news and began to rally up his indians who were able to fight. Despite Clusters various attempts him and his troops were nearly outnumbered ot be able to fight as almost 3,000 Indians were fighting them.
