Yeah and tell it to my wife, Mama, tomorrow when she has to go out of here to look after somebody else's kids.

Walter brings forth his true reasons of why he wants to invest in the liquor store so badly. The way he sees it, the liquor store is a way to get his family out of poverty with a stable income that could supply the generations to come in the future. This ambition is realistic because a store is a company in itself that will keep paying back the owner until it is no longer successful. Some obstacles that we have already seen for Walter is the lack of support from those around him such as Ruth and Mama.

In this passage we could see some of Ruth's inner thoughts. She wants healthy relationships with those around her including her husband Walter. She wants to support him even though he makes it incredibly hard to at times. I think her ambitions are just because it is healthy to want good relationships with those around you. Having healthy relationships will only make your life that much easier and supported. Some obstacles this character may face is the negativity of Walter which could harm her optimism towards supporting him through their journey in life together. A sad truth hiding as a blessing is that she has likely been mistreated her whole life so she has probably been able to gain thick skin against hurtful comments towards her. This could be a blessing in disguise because it is likely that she can be more resistant against Walter's negativity which could help her pursue her dream of a better relationship.

Mama is a very caring person from what we can see so far in A Raisin in the Sun we can see that she is rooted in her faith and shows love to everyone and everything around her. She cares for plants and one of her biggest dreams is to have a house with a garden full of plants she can care for. I believe this goal is highly achievable especially since she won the lottery because now she has enough money to make this dream come true. The only obstacle I see in Mama's future regarding the completion of this goal is the disagreement of the family on how to spend the money. However, a strength that Mama has to combat this obstacle is the mutual agreement of those around her that the money belongs to her therefore she can spend it however she likes.

Beneatha ambition is directed towards her goal of wanting to become a doctor and prove all of her doubters wrong. I approve of Beneatha's ambitions because I too have the same goal of going into the medical field. I think she is very ambitious and while it will be hard to achieve given the time period she lives in I don't think it is impossible. I believe if she keeps giving it her best effort and continues to do all she can to achieve her goal it can come true. On the downside however Beneatha is facing a seemingly endless list of obstacles to achieve this goal just because of her skin color and social class. On one hand she is going to be given less opportunities to succeed because she is African-American and on the other hand when she gets those opportunities she may not be able to afford them because of her social class and family wealth. On top of that she does not have much support from her own family and society around her. To conclude, I think it Beneatha's goals are achievable but are going to be incredibly difficult.

I included this picture of Travis Scott's Rodeo album cover because one of the songs on the album is called "Impossible". In this song he says "I wish I could do the impossible". While Beneatha's goals are not impossible I believe it is representative of this because she has everything going against her in order to achieve this goal which would make it that much more significant if she does end up achieving it.

While Travis has not had much screen time as of yet in this play we can see his dreams portrayed in the beginning of the play. I believe that Travis' dream is to be like all the other kids in his class. Travis probably knows his family is not very wealthy and he wishes more than anything that he could be like all the other children at his school. This is why he always asks for money or offers to work after school to make some money. Winning the lottery drastically helps his dream's chance of coming true. I believe Travis' dream is reasonable because wanting to be equal to those around you is a natural feeling and equality is a factor of life that has drove countless African-Americans throughout history to achieve their goals. An obstacle I can already see in this characters future is the fact that Travis is not very powerful. Whatever he says may not be listened to just because of his age which could harm his chances. Another obstacle Travis has is the mixed opinions of his family over the money may make it so the money is not spent well so the family and Travis could go right back into poverty.
