I teach because for me teaching is a fulfilling profession. I feel a sense of fulfillment when the learners understand what I teach and put them into practice. I am also happy being with children. I enjoy the personal connection I have with my learners.

I teach because I want to make a difference not only for myself but to the community.
I am Nurse by profession and I realized that I have the passion to teach when I mentored nursing students in the operating room. Then I make a detour of my career and jumps into the academe sector. But I did not contain my teaching in the classroom alone. I go beyond the classroom, during weekends I teach the young inmates in collaboration with foreign NGO.

Why do I teach? The course to teach was my mother's choice. She said, "If you are not going to choose teaching, then you will not be able to go to college!" Right after graduation from a physics teaching course, doors of opportunities for more teacher training opened for me. Right after the physics teacher training, the door for job opportunities opened for me. There was an order at the start, then support came along the way. As I look back, I just followed an order, embraced the support, and accepted the job to teach. Then I realized that I am loving it.

EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON
My dream profession was being a Computer Engineer but an opportunity knocked when I passed the DOST Scholarship. I was being practical back then even though engineering was offered, I chose Education and majored Physics because of the higher allowance. Maybe it was really God's plan. Maybe if I became an engineer, I would still teach. Why? Because my profession makes me really proud of myself. It's really fulfilling especially when my students come back to me, text me or post on the social media about me, and tell me how thankful they are of my teachings, the topics and the moral lessons they've learned from me. When I get tired sometimes because of the side jobs of a teacher, (plus given the low salary), I am always reminded that I am doing this not just for my children, but also for those students who love to learn from me. Teaching eventually became my PASSION.

When I was still schooling from High School to my Masters, I told myself that teaching profession was not for me. In High School, I gave up on studying and I was only focus on being an athlete (thus I can only count the days when I am in School because most of the time I am in practice and/or Atheletic Meets). In College, I even did not chose my Course because I thought I would become a Varsity but a twist of fate put me into becoming a Marine Biologist. By that time, I was forced to atleast gave effort to my studies because of my scholarship and voila, I even finished my Masters. By that time, I still did'nt have a career goal. I just go with where God puts me.

My schooling experiences from High School to Masters were my very good reasons that I told myself that teaching profession is not for me. But, I never thought that those same reasons helped me to become a Teacher. I was a researcher for five years and tried part time teaching, then it was that moment on my first class that I flashbacked all my memories in schooling. I then realized that I was once a student like them and I know their struggle but the most fascinating thing was that I also realized how hard it was for my Teachers to teach and mentor me and helped me to become a better student and a person.

In that very moment and up until now, I am still challenging myself and giving my best to become not only a good teacher but most importantly, to mold more students to become a better person someday. In that way, I have a good motivation to answer the question "Why I teach?"
