"This is the photo of my gradfather Giovanni, he was a greengrocer adept and every morning he taken his vegetables that he's coltivate in his vegetable garden, there were many vegetables, every vegetables of a season, and he brang them at the market of Vicenza for sell them. And otherwise the vegetables he had also so many flowers, in the garden, for example "margherite". He brang the flowers also them for sell them at the market, for the ladies of the city. I remember that when I visited him I been into the garden and for give water to the garden, all around it there was a moat, with water, and he took the water from there with buckets, every afternoon."

My grandmother is telling a story here that is related to this photo, so I will write it in a nutshell. I was in Luhačovice (town) with my aunt and uncle. My uncle gave me pralines, but I didn't know what they were, because there was nothing like that at that time. I went to the toilet with them (I don't know why) and ate them all. Then I went back to my aunt and she scolded me for eating them all. And she remembered it until her death!!

I was born in 1950 on the Fourth of June to my parents František and Vlasta Opravilovi. I was a post-war baby. My parents decided to built a house in 1953, because my father was a bricklayer. I don't really remember the building of the house, but there is this one event that caught my attention. When we moved to a not yet finished house and I was celebrating my 5th birthday there. That's what I chose this event. At that time I had a brother. We were two, but in the future my other 3 siblings were born. I remember a certain preparation and celebration. My mum always baked, so I had a beautiful cake as you can see on the photo. I had white dress, a ribbon, socks, everything. My parents even though there was a certain misery were always nicely dressed from other photos. I remember my childhood very well and I also remember that we have never been hungry. So I can say that my childhood was nice. I'm a grandmother now. I have 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
