The United States won the space race. They won by getting the first person on the moon. The first person on the moon was Neil Armstrong. The Soviet Union made four failed attempts to launch their space craft, also including exploding launch pads. So the US was able to get a chance at getting to the moon first, and they did.

The Soviet Union was the first to reach space. That astronaut's name was Yuri Gagarin. For the Soviet Union they knew that they were now going to be one step ahead of the US. This continued to create a competition because the US already knew that the Soviet Union had a head start. So they needed to work even harder to beat the Soviet Union. So they did and they won.

Kennedy promised to get the first on the moon before the Soviet Union. He made a speech at Rice University saying that he really wants to get the first person to the moon. Apollo were all the missions to get the first man on the moon. Each Apollo project was to get one step forward towards getting the first man on the moon.

Post 7- What are 3 ways the space race created competition between the US and USSR?

The primary motivation was to gain power so when the USSR lost the space race. Other countries looked at the USSR as weak or less than the US. Another way is that the USSR wanted to beat the US in something to improve their reputation. So other countries could look at them more powerfully. The last way is that they found many different things to compete with against the US. For example influencing third world decolonization.

Satellite technology has improved significantly. The US for example were able to do more things because of the satellites technology improving. Also spaceship designs have improved in many ways. For example the overall shape of a spaceship helped spaceships be more effective. Last but not least space travel and rover technology has improved so much. Now we we can put robots on Mars without having to possible harm a human.
