Thanks for continuing to read on, cheers! In this section, you will be further educated regarding commitment within SST.

1. Get friends/emotional support
As. the famous Helen Keller once said "Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much" And what she said was true. SST is a tightly knitted community, when you shun yourself from the rest of the community, you will forever be alone because when you are faster than the speed if light, you can only live in darkness. The key to staying committed in SST is being integrated into community and socialise as only then will you have a goal within SST. Whenever you feel down, you always have someone who you feel truly cares for you with this tip. It also gives you motivation to keep on going even in your darkest hours.

2. Get rid of any distractions which may hinder you through the SST journey
It is a vast world out there, for one mind to contain all of its knowledge is impossible, hence you should shun away the information which you don't need. You may lose your most treasured item or anything else, however, in life, this is how it goes, nothing in the world is fair, only when you accept fate and let everything go, then you can indeed stay committed. As the famous Charles Dickens once said: "The important thing is this: to be ready at any moment to sacrifice what you are for what you could become." Without distractions, you can finally complete the task you are assigned.

1) Avoid using idioms, slang, jargon, and acronyms

These expressions are seldom taught at school or in formal language courses so sometimes certain people wouldn’t understand what some of them mean. Some people may get very confused about what you're talking about and may take it the wrong way or they may not be able to catch up to what you're saying.

2) Be polite and formal

Certain people are not as casual as other people from different countries. We have to try and be polite when we are talking and also avoid informality when talking. This would make a good first impression when you meet them. Certain people don’t appreciate humour or jokes and they are very formal sometimes so it is only polite to respect their opinions and do the same when talking to them.

3) Respect the basic rules of correct grammar and standard syntax

Most people who learn second languages know their grammar, so if you don’t respect the basic rules of correct grammar and standard syntax, you would make a fool of yourself. This would make a bad first impression of you.

4) Value silence

Try to become more comfortable with silence. For example, many Asian cultures appreciate periods of silence and do not like to be hurried. If so, then give them as much time as they need and be patient for their responses. Sometimes they are just shy because they may have just met you and talked to you for the first time, so they might not be very open yet.

Draw,paint,doodle,watercolour
Using your creativity you can draw anything in your mind even if it doesn’t look good but if you use your creativity you can make it look good. If you don’t think that drawing is fun for you you can use different objects like painting, using crayons to doodle or even using online tools to help you use your creativity.

Do something physical.

When you are stuck, do something physical! It is a good way to warm up your body and keep the blood flowing to your brain, sitting there while your mind is dying but still trying to brainstorm is a bad idea.

      Embrace boredom
Even when you are bored there always something to do.If you embrace boredom you can find something to do even though there may be nothing fun to do.

Ways on how to improve on communication skills
1)Be yourself
Do not change your personality when interacting with others, as you would become more nervous ,tend to stutter and will lose your train of thought. If you ever change your personality when interacting with someone, it would not help you in the long run too because the person would have a different impression on you and it will be very hard to remain the same personality as you did before in the future.
2)Don’t be afraid of getting put down by others
The more you are afraid of getting put down, the more you would not want to share your thoughts during group work and once the work is done you would not be as satisfied with the work as you would be if you had shared your thoughts in the beginning.
3) Practise makes perfect
In order to achieve good communication skills, practise is the key. It is not possible to have good communication skills overnight but as time passes your skills would have improved significantly as compared to before. To improve your communication skills, you should take baby steps like for example, opening up to a few friends and slowly you would be able to get the hang of communicating and will be able to interact with more people. By continuing to do that, communicating would be a piece of cake for you after some time.

4) Get to the point
Do not bring up irrelevant details when you are discussing something important. When you tend to beat around the bush, people would lose interest in what you are talking about and no one wants that. This would also cause a bad impression as you would be known for being irrelevant.

evan, isaac, darius, hari Do not put people down Always listen to people’s feedback even if you think it is wrong. Having an open mind is crucial because it allows you to better your idea and makes you consider whether the idea is valid. Who knows, maybe your friend’s idea could be better than yours. Hurting other people's feelings is never the right answer. It can decrease their morale and decrease their productivity for the group project, which affects the whole group in a bad way.
