The worlds most disturbing problem is named global warming, why did it start? Well, unfortunately for us, a few inventions of ours, such as: cars, trucks and factories, caused our problem of global warming. This is because, the fossil fuels we use release carbon dioxide, and that CO2 (carbon dioxide) blocks the sunlight from getting out. When the sun hits the earth, around 45% is absorbed by our atmosphere and clouds and about 30% is reflected back into space by the earth’s surface. However with CO2 blocking it, the sunlight and radiation remains on earth heating up the overall climate year by year. This concludes into destroying the homes of polar bears and penguins.

Here are a few things you can do: use only bicycles, don’t go to far places because you’ll need to go on airplanes, for an8mal goods check their origin to see if they were made ethically and biologically and that the company making them is not worsening global warming. You can also invest in alternative energies, for example, solar panels to power your house can reduce the amount of heated water you use. This is important because, to create warmed up water you need carbon, which, once used, causes pollution. You can also change your diet or buying preferences, consume animal products in moderation and not every day, do not buy bottled water (if anything by a filtering machine for your tap), and research on vegetarian diets. Lastly, one of the main pollutants are actually our clothes, with 10% of the yearly carbon emissions being from the fashion industry, so if you can reduce your shopping, don’t follow fast fashion, and buy second-hand, it will help the earth. So here are some ways you can help.

Greta Thunberg was recently (5 days ago) speaking at the CNN’s (Cable News Network) coronavirus town hall about why the coronavirus is stopping global warming, however there is one problem about this, coronavirus will take a slight longer time to stop because it has been discovered that, the coronavirus dies at places with 35 degrees celsius or higher. Here are a few things that Greta Thunberg did to lower global warming: For about two years, Thunberg challenged her parents to lower the family's carbon footprint and overall impact on the environment by becoming vegan, upcycling, and giving up flying. Every day millions of pounds of trash get spilled over beaches or other landscapes. The trash pollutes the ocean and the animals living in it. But that’s not all. The workers who bring the trash to the beaches don’t just leave it there. They burn it until it’s gone. You might think well good because then there will be no more trash. But that is exactly not good. Burning trash causes global warming. In the past few years this crisis became worse and worse and it actually still is. If all the people around the world would work together and try to not buy many plastic products would change the world. So whoever’s watching reading or hearing this you could also help. And with that help we could change the world.

Why climate change is affecting what we need, to live

How is climate change affecting what we need, to live. Well, farming isn’t really working out with climate change, because some plants need heat and climate change is obviously changing the climate for plants which means that we will have no wheat for cows, so the food cycle could be altered or even worse, stopped. But is their a way to change the future? Yes there is and here are the instructions:

1. Don’t use warm water and here’s how: use showers only for 10 minutes or 20 minutes and no baths, wash your hands with normal water or better for the environment, cold water and finally be carful in how much water you use.

2. Don’t buy things that are useless such as posters, because if you do then industries won’t stop making them and why is this bad for the environment? Honestly, It’s terrible, because they might be powering the machine that makes them with fossil fuels.

3. Did you know that when food rots it creates a gas stronger than carbon dioxide! This greenhouse gas emission is called methane. Approximately 11% of all greenhouse gas emissions are methane. And where does the food go to rot? It does it in landfills. Some landfills might be close to a sea, nearby you or possibly close to the ocean. So now you can see what impact rotting food does. (I'm sure that you, reader, understood that from the start of this paragraph) Here’s what you can (but please do, because methane is stronger than carbon dioxide) do to help:

Plan what you need to buy, which also means don’t buy junk food and do not overbuy, even if it’s so tempting to do in this quarantine, please don’t.

Buy frozen food and again, it can’t be junk food, it may not be something made by a failing food company. Furthermore, if you buy frozen food it lasts longer.

And finally be creative with leftovers, or if you just like eating leftovers as they are then that’s okay, but cooking is a load of enjoyment.

Crude oil, or petroleum (literally “rock oil” in Latin), is a liquid fossil fuel made up mostly of hydrocarbons (hydrogen and carbon compounds). Oil can be found in underground reservoirs; in the cracks, crevices, and pores of sedimentary rock; or in tar sands near the earth’s surface.

Greenhouse gases get used and released which makes the temperature on Earth go higher and higher. All the gases let the sun past the earth’s atmosphere which also makes global warming worse. So the more greenhouse gases get released the more warmth gets captured on earths surface. Each year more greenhouse gases get captured in earths atmosphere. In the past few years the temperature rose at an alarming rate. Global warming has never been over today’s temperature in over hundreds and thousands of years. The higher the temperature rises the more glaciers melts which will cause many floods on low surfaces. This high temperature also causes a lot of hurricanes and tornados. Growing food for people is also going to become harder. This could also cause heart diseases and lung cancer. If we use solar panels and other reusable energy sources could help make this crisis better.

If we got in a fight we always ended up resolving it and we all learned to treat each other equally, we had no boss or leader and we listened to each other's ideas carefully. We had some disagreements but it all worked out at the end and sometimes we had some time to joke around or have some fun.

We are also surprised by how much we achieved during this period and very proud of ourselves. We did questionnaires, presentations, videos, display boards, reports, art drawings and crafts. We are very proud of all that we made and how we made it but we sure are pretty nervous for the original day of the exhibition.

All in all, I had an amazing time in this experience and I will NEVER regret my topic and decisions.

THANK YOU MR.LEWIS FOR BEING OUR MENTOR!

Keyconcepts: Responsibility, Perspective

There is more and more garbage around the world which is very bad for global warming. Every day over 500 tons of trash gets burned on beaches. As you might know plastic or other garbage stores carbon dioxide and when the trash gets burnt it releases all the carbon dioxide. Fossil fuels are also one of the main causes because they are being used in cars, buses, and airplanes. They get tanked with liquid fuel but they get released as gas which pollutes the air really badly.

Figure 1: GLOBAL WARMING POSTER

Ghislain Irakoze

Ghislain Irakoze is an eco fighter who was born on 13/January/2000.
