The most explored theme in the story of Salome is the idea of Salome using her body and dance to fulfill her wants and how it is against stereotypical nature of men being dominant and confident in their doings, as in the poem Salome speaks about her doings with immense confidence and portrays herself as dominating over other helpless men instead of the common stereotype.

Global Issues - Salome

The issue which is deeply explored in this poem is the issue of Power and Justice. However, the issue is not in connect to political power or world justice. It talks about the justification of Salome's actions to herself, and the power she provides herself with while doing so.
Humans are programmed to maintain there comfort zone, and hence as Salome knew her actions and routine was not accepted of by the world, she justified her actions to herself, believing for them to be right in the name of religion or by portraying herself as innocent of her doings. This caused her to create a sense of individuality in such a huge world and hence provided her with the power to perform all that she wanted to and deemed right, as she was not afraid of the opinions of the outside world and was free to live her routine.
However, all that being said, the poem not confines itself to a single global issue as it does also create an overlap into the issue of belief, values and education along with culture, identity and community. This is because, the poem continuously challenges stereotypes set by the culture and Salome performs acts deemed unfaithful or horrendous by the community. This indicates that Salome was provided with a high level of education for her to be able to formulate her own beliefs and values and opinions of these stereotypes. These opinions which formed out to be against such stereotypes greatly influenced in the creation of her identity and what she does in her daily activities. Therefore, to defy her communities and cultures narrow mindset she formulated a self-justified, powerful and confident identity with her beliefs and values at her core.
