Everything you say and do can be interpreted as offensive to another to the point where they will attack you for it. To society, someone is guilty until proven innocent and will still receive harassment afterwards. Thankfully it isn't like that here, people here in this technology center are more open minded because of the people coming from other countries.

We have access to and incredible amount of information, but along with technology we loose our privacy (with corporations knowing everything about us) and we loose our human connection. Social media can bring us into these bubbles (social AND political) where we are surrounded by these opinions that we agree with and we loose our real connections with people and why others may think differently than us.

Geographically, Cary is a very diverse community, and a rapidly growing one. In the 1980 census, Cary had only 25,000 citizens. That number is over 130,000. There are lots of construction projects, mowing down trees to build more townhomes for more people. I fear that Cary is loosing the natural charm and is becoming more urban, but without the benefits of urban living (public transportation, being ale to walk places, etc.) More cars means more traffic and more pollution. But that is a symptom of growth, I suppose.

It's kind of stressful to grow up in this time period. Students have more pressure than ever to perform well in school and go to college because walking into the world with a high school degree will get you a 1 way trip to a job at fast food. We also need to be careful of what we say because saying the wrong thing can offend someone easily. We also see a lot more about mental health and how many people are more stressed than ever and the number of people with depression keeps going up. Today's world is a lot more complex than the world 10 - 15 years ago.

Growing up in this time means instant information. Anyone in any little trailer park or gated community can google the same thinks. I think this makes us more informed, but also makes us more likely to interpret the information how we please, and more able to pick our facts and news sources to fit our agenda. This wealth of information is doing for our Democracy what webMD does for doctors. It puts information in the hands of people who do not know how to use it. Sometimes people don't know what they want until it is given to them. We are growing up in the greatest intellectual and social revolution since the renaissance. Increased social interaction and information sharing are a double edged sword. Growing up in this day and age means less direct democracy to protect our freedom to choose. A paradox with no clear answer.

The fact that we live in Cary, a very diverse community, we are open to the concept of neodiversity more than other many other places. This gives us tools for better interpersonal relations with people from all walks of life. We are also living in a place where food, clean water, shelter, education, and many other necessities are easily accessible. Because of this, we are very privileged and "blessed". We are given all these tools that our parents, grandparents, or any other previous generation in our family didn't have, without us having to do any work for it. Challenge-wise, we are now given standards to apply these tools we were given. We are expected to do more, and perhaps some of us were groomed in such a comfortable way that this is too difficult. Since we are used to so many things being provided to us, we are afraid to venture out for more, because we aren't used to stepping out in order to do so. We are also succumb to ignorance of situations going on elsewhere in the world, blinded by the fact that everything here is almost perfect.

I think that there are benefits and downfalls regarding living in this day and age. I feel that with new freedoms for groups of people, there are also more prejudices. Same with new policies in government and changes in what is socially acceptable today. Although we face these issues, I feel a benefit of living in today's society is that we are more able to talk about certain things and address them. A downside is the divisions that we currently have and our want to constantly put people in categories based on race, gender, sexuality and more. This leads to certain treatment for and against certain groups that we categorize ourselves in. I feel the world is infinitely more connected than ever before, and that is changing how we interact with each other. This can be a good and a bad thing. I feel there is an upside and a downside to any topic you approach to what it is like to live here and now.
