Maxim in 1884 in the United States. The gun weighs 136.5 pounds. The machine gun works by harnessing energy released in firing cartridge, making it capable to discharge multiple bullets by simply pulling a trigger. The gun can shoot 600 rounds per minute. The gun is water-cooled by a jacket around the barrel with 1 gallon of water inside. The gun got the nickname of the Vickers gun. During the war 30 million or more rifles were manufactured or imported. The rifle is also known as the finest rifle during WWI. All nations required soldiers to have a standard rifle for daily use and trench warfare. Rifles were predictable unlike new inventions such as tanks, poison gas and others. Most rifles used in WWI had a bayonet, which is a long knife attached to the end of a rifle. The bayonets were helpful in hand-to-hand combat, soldiers could stab enemies by lunging the rifle forward into the enemy. There were 8 different kinds of rifles used during the war. The Germans accepted the flamethrower into their army in 1911 but started practicing with flamethrowers to prepare for combat. They were first brought into war on February 26th 1915. They were called the flammenwerfer in Germany. The flamethrower is capable of shooting flames a distance of 20 yards. A container with fuel is held on soldiers backs with a pipe to fire out of. Going into this topic I thought I would not like it but after some research it became more interesting. I learned that there were many kinds of weapons used during the war and some of them I have never heard of before. My learning changed my thoughts on this topic because I thought it was going to be boring but learning more about it I learned that it isn't so boring and there is so much to learn about the weapons used.
