Puritans are the ones who established the foundation of America. They did not like the church of England and the catholic church. They were persecuted by Charles II, causing them to leave England and migrate to the Americas. Their beliefs are Calvinism, which still affect our society today. They believed that everything bad in the world was the work of Satan and Satan recruited wizards and witches to do his work on earth. This allowed people to generalize that specific symptoms prove your a witch. Puritan girls who supposedly have divine powers and could detect witches, accused many innocent, ruining their lives.

The group of girls who could supposedly tell if someone was a witch, were just power hungry frauds. They would accuse anyone they did not like of wanted to get rid of. They primarily targeted the outcast of society due to it being easier for the general population to be convinced in killing a non-religious women in her thirties, which is frowned upon in puritan society. These girls had jailed and even hung people due to accusing them. They would fake scratches and marks on their skin to give the illusion that the accused was a witch. The accused were given a trail, but their fate was entirely up to the girls depending on how they felt they should act.

Joseph McCarthy many people of being communist without any solid evidence to support his claims. Only a select few out of the ones he pointed out were communist. If called a communist by McCarthy, your life was ruined because no one would do business with you, people would avoid you, and your wife and kids would most likely leave you. McCarthy went about this because of the Red Scare, a panic provoked by the fears of communism in American Society. He however could have done better and actually find communist in American society instead of simply accusing people with no evidence. This is very similar to the witch hunt with McCarthy being similar to the girls accusing other people without solid evidence and ruining or ultimately being their live.

The Salem Witch Trails were the most biased trails. A group of girls have created the illusion that they can tell who is a witch. When someone of being accused of a witch is put into trail, all the girls who have to do was start to freak out or pretend to be mind controlled to get the accused to be killed. The girls were addicted to the power of being able to decide someones fate. Additionally, the girls could accuse anyone and that meant they were a witch. If they did said they were not a witch, they were killed, if they did accept the accusations they brought to trail. Ultimately, they would be convicted of being a witch. The girls in the trail would start to scream, claw their own skin, act like they are being mind controlled and all sorts of stuff to get the accused to be found guilty of being of witch.

The puritans believe in establishing a utopia where God would be found everywhere, that being the theory of a City Upon a Hill. John Winthrop is the one that said this line. The supposed Utopia would be the Massachusetts Bay Colony. They wanted to have theocracy, a blend between government and church, as their love for God was so immense. These Puritans did value the education of Jesus, creating universities like Harvard. They did believe that everyone was born a sinner and predestined by God if they are going to hell or heaven. As well as believing everything bad happening in the world is a act of Satan. They beliefs helped manifest the Salem Witch Trials by making it easier to accuse the ones deemed "unholy" or "satanic". With everyone believing these things, it was easy to point out someone who did not appear was going to heaven based on Puritan beliefs as being a worker of Satan.
