Review the information on self-assessments in the Learning Tools and Resources folder. Why are student self-assessments so important to learning? How would you teach the idea of student self-assessment to your students? Describe how you would develop a student self-assessment tool using technology, including the tool you would use. Develop a student self-assessment using the information given and demonstrate how to use this tool within your journal response. This will be used as the self-assessment for your mini unit, so make sure it aligns to the standards you are focusing on.

After reviewing the information on self-assessments in the Learning Tools and Resources folder, student self-assessments are so important to learning because they serve as a tool in the learning process. Specifically, Wilson College (2024) noted that self-assessments "encourages independent learning, enhances learning outcomes, and can potentially reduce teachers’ workloads. [In addition, self-assessments help] students understand what they are learning and the reasons why they are learning about a particular subject." There are some benefits that Wilson College (2024) put forward when self-assessments are exercised which include the following: "students can evaluate knowledge and learning processes; critical thinking and problem-solving skills can be improved; [and] champions a growth mindset for viewing challenges as opportunities." I would teach the idea of student self-assessment to my students by having periods and structural routines outlined where learners are to fill out a template or discuss self-assessments. The significance of having pupils participate in a discussion or complete a template indicating self-assessment would be to gain insights into how well the students comprehend the instruction; the symbol would be for instructors to uncover what input has been advocated and differentiate future instruction toward reaching the success of each participant. I would develop a student self-assessment tool using technology using the following tool: Google Forms. I can have learners fill out a Google Form following up on a performed lesson. Google Forms can consist of questions that represent not only a self-assessment but also a formative assessment.
