Nick claims to be a honest person, but he knows he is not completely honest with himself. Another flaw that holds nick back is judgement, he tells himself that he isn't someone who judges but he says "My own house was an eyesore, but it was a small eyesore, and it had been overlooked, so I had a view of the water, a partial view of my neighbor's lawn, and the consoling proximity of millionaires—all for eighty dollars a month. (1.14)

At the start of the novel I thought nick was, an educated man because, he used very sophisticated words to describe events and this thoughts. Such as,"I am still a little afraid of missing something if I forget that, as my father snobbishly, and i snobbishly repeat, a sense of the fundamental decencies is parcelled out unequally at birth." (1.2)

Nick's most important ideas in regards to life are, more of a realistic outlook on people and their behaviors. His views on Jordan and how she behaves, "Jordan Baker instinctively avoided clever, shrewd men, and now I saw that this was because she felt safer on a plane where any divergence from a code would be thought impossible." (3.57)
Tom and Daisys relationship, "To a certain temperament the situation might have seemed intriguing-my own instincts was to telephone immediately for the police." (1.2) On when Nick found out about Toms affair, and even Gatsbys idea of recreating the past, "I wouldn't ask too much of her," I ventured. "you can't repeat the past" (6.110)

Nick thinks about himself that he’s an honest and limit intolerance man. He claims in chapter 3 that his honesty is one of his “cardinal virtues” (3.59) and in chapter 1 he claims that he learned his tolerance has a limit. “...After busting this way of my tolerance I come to the admission that it has a limit.” (1.2). essentially he prides himself for remaining honest when he sees all this deceit and lies that happen around him.
