Beneatha also stops straitening her hair to show that she is not afraid of talking about and demonstrating her roots. She express her love and pride for her heritage. The poem "Dreams" by Langston Hughes relates to Beneatha's dreams. Close to the the end of the play, A Raisin In The Sun by Lorraine Hansberry, Beneatha finds out that Walter lost the money for her education and she is feeling sad. She thinks she cannot accomplish her dreams anymore, she starts loosing hope in her future. She thinks there is no reason to become a doctor and save, and "fix" people. Beneatha thinks life is bleak now, and does not want to keep fighting for her goala. However, at the end, she realizes her dreams are still with her, and more opportunities will come. This poem illustrates how important it is to "hold fast to dreams", and goals, to have hope for a better future.

Mama asks Walter why he frequently talks about money, and Walter replies, “Because, it is life, Mama!... It was always money, Mama. we just didn’t know about it” (74). This quote demonstrates the theme because Walter dreams about having more money, and he believes money will make his family happy, and their problems will be solve. However, in reality, his desire of having more money usually causes the family to get into arguments. Walter’s family believes that Walter’s desire of money could result in Walter losing the money they have.
