Basically, this means that without strong moral standards, people make bad decisions and act out. Legalism is the belief that humans are more inclined to do more wrong than right because they are motivated by self-interest and require strict laws to control their impulses. This means that without strict laws and rules, people will act out and make bad decisions. Both confucianism and legalism are similar in the way that they belief that people's bad behaviors can be controlled through either strong morals or strict laws. Taoism is a religion that emphasizes doing what is natural and "going with the flow". However, they differ because Confucianism promotes the idea that people are naturally good and do wrong due to lack of morals while Legalism embraces more of the wrongdoings of humans and the need for restrictions. Confucianism is different from the others because it is a belief of humans are essentially good and that people only do bad things because they lack strong moral standards. This is why relationships are important to have along with superiority and inferiority.  Legalism on the other hand is when humans are not breed to be good, so rules need to be put in place in order for them not to do bad things. That is why their is a legal system in order to keep the peace and people under control. Lastly, Taoism is naturally going with the flow and not to fight against the natural will of some people.
