This would be great to use before students are doing any kind of networking, or even as a first week activity. Using the video with "EdPuzzle" would be great! This is a source where you can embed questions in to the video and it will make students answer the question before they can continue viewing the video. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>IP (Internet Protocol) Addresses are a number given to every web accessible device and is used like a home address to find it on a network.  DNS (Domain Name system) associates a corresponding web address with the IP address.  Great intro to how students' devices are all connected in a network, like houses in a neighborhood or town (IP addresses).  DNS would be actual neighborhood or town names.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>An excellent 4 minute video overview that shares a very brief history of the origin of the internet. The military was tasked to figure out how to build a communication system that would survive a nuclear attack - called the Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET).<br>Eventually communication strands were grouped into networks, which grew upon themselves creating a mesh of blocks exploding into what we now call the Internet.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>First Video  - How does information Travel Over a Network?  Great video to explain the binary code and use of equipment to send information over a network.  She defined bit, byte, megabyte and downloading time/capacity.  She explained that we can use electricity, but while it is less expensive, it has a problem with signal loss at a distance.  Light or fiber optics, has no signal loss, and has cables running all over the world, it is expensive.  The third possibility is radio.  Radio translates the sounds to  1&#39;s and 0&#39;s, but has a distance issue, so it probably needs to connect with some kind of wire transport form.</title>

Perfect chance to practice learning their parent's phone number and learn that websites also have phone numbers. Literacy, i.e. practicing letter names and sounds is naturally embedded in this activity, used as a tool to an end, instead of an isolated lesson.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>TCP/IP has a little thing called "whois". This protocol identifies the owner of a particular website. This may not be the best reconnaissance tool for Ma and Pa Kettle shops as they go through companies like Wix or GoDaddy. These ISPs handles everything for them. HOWEVER, with bigger companies, the whois record will show the address, contact info, and DNS boxes (!!) that are responsible for name resolution. This can be a great start for recon.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Personally, I think it is huge for kids to understand a specific protocol that has a standard port number assigned to it: E.g. HTTP - port 80, HTTPS - port 443, FTP - ports 20 and 21, etc. There are maybe 10-15 ports with which kids should be intimately familiar.</div>]]></description>
