In my school, most of the career lessons are integrated in the curriculum in most of subjects. Additionally, there are some subjects like Personal Development- from Preparatory to second class and Civic education for the third and fourth class, where career lessons are separate, as a topic. I often integrate career education in the school projects I run, because the young pupils are really interested in. In the gymnasium, there is the counsellor and the teacher who is responsible of the class who is teaching about career.

Special emphasis in this process was placed on determining the abilities, skills, professional interests and motivation of students, as well as on the possibilities of education and employment in a particular region. Special attention is paid to students who are expected to have difficult access to the labor market after graduation, ie students with developmental difficulties or serious health problems.
Students also visit high schools that have an open day for prospective students where they can get the necessary career information.

There are several people in my school in charge of guiding students and informing them of their options: the class head teacher, the school’s educational psychologist and the head teachers’ coordinators. We get the visit of university representatives every year (foreign and domestic) and the psychologist either visits the different classes or talks to the students individually. Every student has to go through aptitude testing at the end of middle school. There’s also an advice bureau open year round, that can provide more thorough aptitude testing at any point of the students’ education paths. By the time students have to apply to university, they should be aware of all they need to make informed choices regarding their professional future. This is especially important for the Madeiran students, as most of them will end up having to move to continental Portugal to further their education. Even though we do have a university on the island, the options are very limited. The students that choose double certification (high school diploma and professional training) also have to go through 600 hours of apprenticeship in whatever area they are studying. There is also a summer programme for students over 16, that allows them to work for a month each summer at a place of their choosing and they are paid for that work. Most of the subjects, at one point or another, will cover career choices, but in a very abstract way.

I have been working with high schoolers for quite some time now, so I feel that I can talk to them and advise them in an informal context. I can tell them of the procedures and how to look for the information they need (and in Portugal there are plenty of websites that can help them). However, I consider that I should work on building a more structured way of helping them choose their paths. The result of our work is visible only when, at the beginning of each school year, we are told the percentage of our students that were accepted at university and which degrees they were accepted in. We are never told what happens to those who choose alternative paths, as there is no reliable source of information regarding those.

In my school, there is a counselor department to guide students in career education. Students are given extracurricular activities, conferences to inform them and discuss possibilities at foreign universities. These activities start at 10th and 11th grade. They also have the chance to attend a career fair where they have access to the different careers. In terms of tests to guide students, I do think my school does not use the best or most adequate tests. I know students are having problems choosing a career at the end of their studies. The problem is that teachers do not work on career education in their classes. They do not spend time on that, since there is no an instruction or plan from the head department to do it.

I teach in a high school, so career education is quite important. Firstly, this issue is addressed by the form teacher, during the "counselling and guidance" classes, through specific topics related to the work market, different types of jobs and skills. Nonetheless, the form teacher is not provided with proper tools (such as tests, surveys) to determine skills or assess capabilities of students. Activities are based on information, discussions, debates. If the form teacher is really passionate about his/her job, he/she can invite professionals working in different fields to talk about those specific jobs and answer the students' questions about them. This isn't an organised school initiative, but the form teacher's private effort, based on his/her own inspiration and possibilities.
Secondly, applicable to the 11th and the 12th grades, once in a school year, the school counsellor develops some educational activities with the students, trying to apply some tests in order to discover potential talents and to guide students towards the relevant universities.

In my school, we have a counselling and guidance teacher giving advices to pupils. after the first two years of high school education students choose a field to study (social, natural, language etc)with the help of our teacher's guidance. Before students make a decision about the field they want to study, they sit for some tests to see their competences, interests, apts etc. During this process, every teacher (who has a class) helps to counselling teacher with the data collecting process and referring the students who needs more help to the service.
When students graduate from high school they sit for a university entrance exam. then they apply to the universities with their scores ,with the help of our councelling and guidance teacher.
Actually at the end of this process students decides mostly according to their scores and the salaries of jobs. They usually don't take into consideration their aptidutes or competences etc.
Our counselling and guidance teacher carries out some sort of questionnaires to identify the school general needs, then prepares a yearly lesson plan for each grade. Generally we teachers follow that plan in our counselling hours. And the counselling teacher makes presentations about the most important topics he identified. He asks us to fill in some reports evaluating that class after every counselling class, then he collects them and he himself writes a report to the ministry of education.

In Croatia, students at the end of primary school go to counselling in the institution which has the tests for it. But as I hear from the students , it is not very effective as they mostly ask you what would you like to go next, which school and then mostly agree with you. the same happnes when they are in the last year of secondary school. Before going to that counselling, we as headteachers have to write a liittle description and opinion what we think about the student and what are his good skills. We also have a service in school- a pedagogist, who works with them from time to time, but it actually depends all on the person, will he/ she do the work or not, and it is not a programe developed nationally that they have to go with every class, which would be better. We have open days when secondary schools present their programms to primary school kids. also University has open days too.
As a parent you could take your kid to a more detailed exam at a specailist- psychologist, and he will recognize more of your kids skills and good sides. But only 1 percent of parents do it unfortunatelly.

We organise internships for European VET students in Spain. Before they arrive we ask them to do an online course with a module focused on career guidance (self-knowledge, CV writing, presentation letter writing and interview preparation). Once they are in Spain and before the start of their internship we also do an induction to the internship and world of work. This induction includes an interactive work on expectations, setting goals for the experiences, rules for success, etc...The internship experience is recorded with fortnightly monitoring meetings where informal chats and writing evaluations are done. At the end, in a final meeting, we sum up their conclusions and record their satisfactions considering different areas.
