In my opinion, our Iman is always tested to strengthen our faith. For instance, our muscles grew through resistance and training. Our Iman is no different as it strengthens after every trial. Allah SWT tests us many times so we can rely on Allah SWT and strengthen our Iman in the process.

All in all, when our iman is tested it is not meant to harm us, but to prove sincerity, strengthen faith, purify sins, ease our journey to the Hereafter, and remind us of our dependence on Allah. Every trial is a path to be closer to Him.

Usrah creates awareness amongst students on their duties and responsibilities as learners, future leaders, and members of society, so that they may grow into disciplined, accountable, and well-rounded individuals who contribute positively to their community and nation.

1. Shahadah

The testimony that “There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.”

It is the first step into Islam and shows belief in the oneness of God and the finality of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as His messenger.

2. Salah

Muslims pray five times a day at fixed times: Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha.

Prayer keeps a Muslim connected to Allah, reminds them of their duties, and builds discipline and peace in daily life.

3. Zakat

Muslims who are financially able must give a portion of their wealth (usually 2.5% of savings) to the poor and needy.

It purifies wealth, reduces inequality, and encourages compassion and social responsibility.

4. Fasting in Ramadan

Muslims fast during the month of Ramadan from dawn to sunset, abstaining from food, drink, and sinful behavior.

Fasting teaches self-control, empathy for the less fortunate, and spiritual closeness to Allah.

5. Hajj (Pilgrimage to Makkah)

A pilgrimage performed once in a lifetime if a Muslim is physically and financially able.

Millions gather in Makkah annually to perform rituals that show unity, equality, and devotion to Allah.

1. Belief in Allah – One God, the Creator of everything.

2. Belief in his Angels – Allah’s creatures who obey His commands.

3. Belief in his Books – The revelations sent to prophets (Quran, Torah, Bible, Psalms, etc.).

4. Belief in his Messengers – From Nabi Adam AS to Nabi Muhammad SAW

5. Belief in the Last Day – That everyone will be resurrected and judged for their deeds.

6. Belief in Qadr – That everything happens by Allah’s will and knowledge, whether good or bad.

The 6 Articles of Iman shape a Muslim’s belief and faith in the unseen, while the 5 Pillars of Islam guide their actions and worship. Together, they complete a Muslim’s way of life.

Qadar (قدر): Allah’s pre-measurement, plan, and knowledge of everything that will happen. It is the divine destiny determined before creation.

Belief in Qadā’ and Qadar teaches Muslims to trust Allah, accept life’s ups and downs with patience, and strive to do good because we are accountable for our choices. It brings peace to the heart, knowing that everything happens by Allah’s wisdom and will.

2. The Grave – after death, people enter the grave.

3. The Blowing of the Trumpet – signaling the end of the world.

4. The Resurrection – all humans are raised back to life.

The Land of Gathering:

6. The Pond (Hawd al-Kawthar) – a blessing for believers.

7. The Scale (Mizan) – deeds are weighed.

•Receiving of the Books – everyone receives their record of deeds (right hand for believers, left hand/back for disbelievers).

After Judgment:

The Sirat (Bridge over Hellfire) – everyone must cross; believers succeed, disbelievers fall.

The Qantara – believers settle any disputes among themselves before entering Paradise.

Final Destination:

The Believers will go to Paradise. While the Disbelievers & Hypocrites go to the Hellfire.

•The Prophet (PBUH) was sent to prfect good manners.

•Muslims should practice good character in daily life.

•Prophet Muhammad (S) showed excellent behavior toward all creation.

•Good manners are essential for effective dawah (spreading Islam).

•Promoting good and avoiding evil is a key part of Islam.

•The best Muslims on Judgment Day will be those with the best manners.

•Respect and good conduct toward parents are very important.

•Humans should continuously strive to improve their behavior and manners.

In Islam, having good manners is not just about politeness but a reflection of one’s faith and devotion to Allah. Therefore, every Muslim should continuously strive to improve their character and follow the Prophet’s example in daily life.

The reason is that patience helps Muslims remain steadfast in doing good and avoiding sin. Allah promises success for those who persevere.

Definition of Niyyah

In Islam, the term niyyah refers to the intention or motive behind an act, which is to attain Allah SWT's reward and draw oneself closer to the Almighty

How to know if we set the right Niyyah?

1. Sincerity: performing the act of Ibadah solely to Allah SWT

2. Purity of Intention: make sure intention is free from ulterior motive

3. Clarity: clear about what and why they intend to do

4. Focus: avoid any distractions

Levels of Fasting According ti Al-Ghazali

1. Minimum: to refrain oneself from eating, drinking and sexual intercourse 2. Intermediary: to refrain one's body (tongue, eyes, ears, hands) from sinning.

3.Optimal: to refrain one's heart from worldly things which distract us from Allah.

Rahmah (Mercy & Empathy)

How does fasting instill Rahmah in Muslims?

1. By humbling them through hunger and thirst to feel the suffering of the unfortunate ones.

2. By encouraging them to feed others who fast.

Fasting is also an act of worship that many people, including myself, may not fully realise the true value of. Often, fasting feels like simply avoiding food and drink, and I forget that it is meant to build taqwa, patience, and self-discipline. Allah says, “Fasting has been prescribed for you… so that you may attain taqwa” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:183). Reflecting on this makes me understand that fasting is not just a routine practice, but a spiritual training that I should appreciate more in order to strengthen my faith.

Fasting is also an important act of worship because it teaches self-control, patience, and increases taqwa. It helps Muslims become more aware of Allah’s blessings and develop empathy for those who face hardship every day. Allah explains the purpose clearly: “Fasting has been prescribed for you… so that you may attain taqwa” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:183). Through fasting, we strengthen our character and grow closer to Allah, making it a powerful form of spiritual training.

1. Tawakkul

According to Ibn al-Qayyim, tawakkul refers to surrendering to the command and decree of the Lord. Place complete reliance and trust in Allah’s SWT Injunctions, Wills and Decision on his life.

True believers “حقا المؤمنون “are characterized by:

1.fear of Allah SWT,

2.attentive to Quranic reminder,

3.reliance on Allah SWT,

4.performance of Salah

5.giving wealth (Zakah).

Thus, the virtue of tawakkul and the act of giving Zakah are correlated.

2. Ukhuwwah

Ukhūwah refers to the bond of brotherhood among people that creates harmony in life and connects them through their shared Islamic 'aqidah.

In Islam, Allah SWT has declared that believers are brothers in belief and should pursue towards peace and avoid harmful relation

Zakāh trains Muslims in the value of ukhūwah (brotherhood). It builds social awareness and unity within the Muslim community. It helps reduce selfishness and individualism, and encourages Muslims to care for, love, and show empathy toward one

another.

Conclusion

Zakāh involves both vertical and horizontal relationships:

-The vertical relationship is between humans and Allah SWT, as the command to give zakāh comes from Him.

-The horizontal relationship is between humans, as the benefits of zakāh are received by fellow Muslims.

Zakah contains spiritual and social dimensions:

Spiritual

-Muslims learn to rely on Allah SWT.

-They feel peace by giving their wealth in obedience to Him.

-They become less attached to material things.

Social

-It builds care and responsibility for the needy.

-It promotes unity and togetherness in the community.
