     The first Punic war took place in roughly in 264-241 BC and it was a battle between the Roman Republic and the Carthaginian. The battle was over control of the two islands of  Corsica and Sicily.   

    The Reason I chose this war because it was a very important war for Rome to take control of two very important islands but it meant losing a ally.

     The second Punic war took place between spring 218-201 BC it was a series of wars between the Roman Republic and the Carthaginian and it was over the western Mediterranean. After losing the first Punic war Carthaginians relocated and had a new base in Spain where they could renew a war against rome. Hannibal captured Saguntum Rome demanded his withdrawal  but Cathorage refused to recall him and Rome declared war.

Crassus died and Caesar discovered that the Roman Senate wanted him to give up his armies fighting in France Caesar had a choice  either give up or fight back. He chose to fight so  Julius Caesar began a civil war  in Rome by defeating other members of the Triumvirate to become the dictator with total power he  fought Pompey another Roman general and defeated him.
 
      Triumvirate means (in ancient Rome) a group of three men holding power, in particular ( the First Triumvirate ) the unofficial coalition of Julius Caesar, Pompey, and Crassus in 60 BC and ( the Second Triumvirate ) a coalition formed by Antony, Lepidus, and Octavian in 43 BC.





    The reason i chose this picture is because it represents what countries the Romans had conquered.

3. During the war Rome really wanted control of the island Sicily so they took over the man city Syracuse.
