My sister and I were born in the US. However, we all have very different cultural and linguistic identities. My mom identifies more with Mexican culture and identifies as a Spanish speaker. My dad identifies more with American culture and identifies himself both as an English and Spanish speaker, but he primarily sees himself as an English speaker. My older sister identifies herself through both cultures and as a speaker of both languages. For me, I see myself through an American lens because this is where I've grown up all my life. I would choose to live in France because I love everything about the country's culture and values. For example, in France, people value rest and slow living a lot more. Moreover, even when people are passionate about the work they do, work is not the center of one's identity there like it is in the US. Additionally, I love the emphasis they place on quality food. I also really like that making regular time to have coffee or sit down and have food with loved ones is a normal part of everyday life.
