(4 types)<br>Approach-Approach Conflict: Occurs when you must choose between two desirable outcomes<br>Ex:&nbsp;<br>Avoidance-Avoidance Conflict: Occurs when you must choose between two unattractive outcomes<br>Ex: When in class, you get to choose between doing homework, or studying&nbsp;<br>Approach-Avoidance: Exists when ONE event or goal has both attractive and unattractive features<br>Ex: When you are shopping, you choose between a branded item or a non-branded item, one is cheaper, but the other can be more appealing<br>Multiple Approach-Avoidance Conflicts: Here you must choose between two or more things, each of which has both desirable and undesirable features<br>Ex:&nbsp;</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I can begin to understand important motivation and emotion theories.<br><br><strong>James-Lange Theory:</strong> The arousal comes before the emotion (Pounding Hear...Fear)<br><strong>Cannon-Bard Theory: </strong>The Arousal comes at the same time as the emotion<br><strong>Schachter-Singer Theory:</strong> Arousal paired with a cognitive label, then the emotion<br><strong>Opponent Process Theory:</strong> Emotions are in pairs (Fear/Relief; Pleasure/Pain; Depression/Elation) - similar to color theory to sight<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I can be prepared to decide which team I want for the motivation madness at 7AM tomorrow.<br><br><strong>Izard Theory:</strong> 10 basic emotions, cross-cultural, present in infancy, all other emotions are a combination of the original 10. 6 basic are joy, anger, disgust, surprise, sadness, and fear.</div><ul><li>Izard's 10: Joy, interest-excitement, surprise, fear, anger, disgust, contempt, shame, and guilt.</li></ul><div><strong>Ekman's Theory:</strong> Facial muscles are used to indicate emotion and are universal<br><strong>Cues of Genuine Smile</strong></div><ul><li>Studies by Duchene<ul><li>&nbsp;Genuine Smile: Closed eyes, crows feet, lower teeth covered by lips</li><li>Standard Smile: Opened eyes, less prounounced crow, less teeth</li></ul></li></ul><div><strong>Yerkes Dodson Theory:</strong> Optimum stress necessary for optimum performance</div><ul><li>Too much stress: bad</li><li>Too little: bad</li><li>Right Amount: positive/optimal performance</li></ul><div><strong>Learned Motives:</strong> Things you are taught by others; form of social motives but learned through modeling/observation of others</div><ul><li>Aggression: Intent to inflict harm or pain, connection to learned helplessness</li><li>Achievement: Need to excel or overcome obstacles, highly motivated children and upbringing, "Early independence and encouragement, emotional and cognitive roots with future achievement, birth order, and creativity.</li></ul><div><strong>Stimulus Motive:</strong> Unlearned motives that encourage exploration of world. Used to obtain information on the world...even when bored!<br><strong>Benefits of Smiling</strong></div><ul><li>Critical for social interaction: Cues more attractiveness, success, stronger immune system, lower stress, lower age.</li><li>Forced Smiling Research suggests that facial expression partially drives emotion-rather than emotion driving facial expressions.</li></ul><div><br></div>]]></description>
