Students could identify a social problem in their community and create an awareness campaign for that issue.

Art is also an excellent way to raise money. Students could, as a class or year, select a charity they feel passionate about, create images surrounding the ideas of that charity, and then have a student-led gala/auction night where the proceeds go to benefit that charity.

"Scientists have found that specific colors facilitate emotional and physical healing. Develop an art program at the local senior center, children’s hospital, or domestic violence shelter that EMCC students implement once a week for 8 weeks. EMCC students would develop the activities, facilitate the activities, and create a final presentation in which they will share their project with the college or with the class."

Using aspects of design thinking (brainstorming, prototyping, testing, building, and reflecting) to create a solution to visual problems. This process is often used with graphic design clients and website design, so it would work best in a graphic applications course. Alternatively, students could combine problem-based learning and service learning by identifying a problem in their community and trying to solve it with visual artistry.

He would show us different types of technological art-making and, after giving us a prompt, let us select which medium would best portray our messages. If I have access, I want to extend that same opportunity to my students. Show them different ways to use technology as an art form and letting them select the medium they desire.
