Land Transport Authority has proposed a new MRT line, the Cross Island Line

Preliminary plans showed that the line will cut through the Central Catchment Nature Reserve (CCNR)

This triggered heated debate among a few groups of people 

• LTA (Planning authority)
• Residents of potentially affected areas (Local communities)
• Nature Society Singapore (Non-Governmental Organisation)

An alternative route proposed would require the MRT line to skirt the CCNR, potentially affecting property owners in the area

Reason:
- Skirting around CCNR ensures that the nature is protected and not disrupted. 
- It is also more convenient for the commuters living near the residential areas around CCNR.

Our aim : To try and avoid damaging the nature reserve whilst also improving the convenience of commuters taking the MRT. 

Our Choice : Plan 2 ( around CCNR )
As it leaves the nature reserve untouched, when it is done, residents may also have easier access to the station. Though during the construction, there would be noise pollution, causing mental stress to the residents. Reason:
-Plan 2 isn't underground but goes around the central area so trees or nature do not have to be cut down to make space
-Hence, wildlife will not be disrupted by the noise and will not run away to find new habitats and get lost.
-Additionally, greenhouse gases released will not increase and contribute more to global warming.

Our choice: Plan 2 (skirt around CCNR)
-Skirting around CCNR will ensure that the construction does not affect the wildlife within CCNR, as digging a tunnel underneath could cause soil erosion, wich would impact the plantlife within the nature reserve.
- Not only that, but the sound made by the MRT could cause wildlife to panic and leave the area, and go into residential areas or places where they should not be, where it could harm them.
