Procedure

Put the flour and the sugar on a pastry board and make a small hole out of it. Pour in the beaten eggs and the Strega liqueur. Therefore start working the dough, helping yourself with knobs of lard.
Your puff pastry is ready!
Now mash the boiled chestnuts with a potatomasher and put them aside. In a different bowl break up the chocolate and pour the boiling liquid coffee on it, in order to melt the chocolate underneath. As soon as you're done melting mix it with the mashed chestnuts. Keep mixing and add sugar, cocoa powder, liqueur and the grated mostaccioli. Leave it to rest overnight. The morning after start by rolling out the dough and then put some filling on it in small quantities. Overlap another sheet of pastry and cut out the pasticelle by using a small tool that gives to the goodies their typical shape. Once you're done fry them in plenty of sunflower-seed oil. In the end sprinkle them with icing sugar.

This recipe was first created in the South of Italy, more specifically in the Cilento area. From town to town the name and the shape might change but the ingredients and the procedure remain the same. This sort of goodie is usually prepared during the Christmas holidays by grandmas and mums. Pasticelle are eaten when families reunite on Christmas Day and they're appreciated by everyone, from kids to old people.
