My definition of the American Dream is that the American Dream is whatever you wish to make it be. Taking advantage of the opportunity that this country give us. From dreaming about being a pilot, to make a living everyone's dream is different. Some people wish to create an opportunity for their family to live the life they want. This country gives everyone an opportunity to create the life that they want for themselves, but everyone will make something different for themselves. That, is the American Dream.

The song i chose was titled "Fake A** Gold". The song is about the struggle of focusing on your dream and blaming yourself for your past feeling like you cant make it.

"No road is loaded with silver and gold

It's just the treasure that you make for you"

The verse here talks about how the path to your dream is no easy road, that its not going to be easy or "loaded with silver and gold", but you can make what you want with what you got and your dream is what you make of it.

"And there will be mistakes

And there will be days of sorrow

Know we'll be knowing better

There will be a tomorrow"

This verse talks about how even tho there are going to be days where life is hard and your dream seems so hard to reach, that your mistakes let you learn and you can continue for tomorrow.

The section of the book "The Distance Between Us" I choose to use was the epilogue. This proves my thesis is true as even tho she grew up as a poor Mexican girl with family problems, she managed to graduate college. "In June of 1999, I became the first person in my family to graduate from college.". She was the first one in her family to graduate a college, coming from a family of poverty. Even against the odds of everything she still managed to achieve her American Dream, graduating college, and becoming a writer.

The article I have chose to use as evidence is the article "The American Dream Is Alive and Well" by The New York Times. The article defends my thesis that the dream is still alive even if tough. "The data also show that most Americans believe themselves to be achieving this version of the American dream, with 41 percent reporting that their families are already living the American dream and another 41 percent reporting that they are well on the way to doing so. Only 18 percent took the position that the American dream was out of reach for them." This data shows that 41% of Americans have already lived their American Dream. Another 41% also stated how they are on their way to their dream, that will be up to 82% of the population completing their dream, proving that it is still alive and well.
