Within my school setting, the children are preparing for their Easter School Play. My class are joining the other Primary 3 class as well as the Primary 4 and Primary 5s. The play is based around the World War. The practitioners in each class worked together to pick different parts for each of the children to play. Each child has been given a script with their lines for each of their parts. Within the play there are many songs. The children are learning the words as well as being taught the actions. Each child also has a costume that they must wear to get them fully into their character. For example, one of the evacuee girls would wear a dress with a beanie and a small brown strapped bag with a tag on it.

The two Primary 1 classes are rehearsing lines together where some children are saying more than others. They are all standing up and saying their name and what their favourite book is. They have also been rehearsing a song (The B-I-B-L-E, Thats The Book For Me!) to go along with this.

In my setting we were reading the book 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' as a class. Once we had finished reading the book, the children were able to off into their groups and re-tell the story of 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' and make up actions to go along with the story. After lunch time the children were brought back in to class and were given the time to come up to the front of the class group by group to re-enact their version of the story in their own way. This helped to build the children's confidence and teamwork as all of the children had to work together to remember parts of the story.

In my setting my class had taken part in their school play as a drama activity. The theme of the play was winter based and a healthy environment as they had been learning about different winter animals in class. Each child had to dress up in different costumes to represent different winter animals whilst telling a story about how to prevent the ice caps from melting. Some children were dressed up as penguins and had to act out that their home was being melted away. All the children then took part in songs which had actions and dance movements to go along with it.

Primary 3
In my class, a drama activity that was carried out was one where the children created a fairytale of their choice using a puppet show app called Puppet Pals Pocket. This app works by allowing the children to take pictures that they have drawn on paper and then they are able to take a picture of it using their iPad to load in to the app. Then in the app they were able to create a video of how the story went with a voiceover of them telling the story. As their video was being played some of the children were dressed up and had to act out some bits of the story e.g. Jack and the Beanstalk. While this was going on the teacher was encouraging them to try to be more enthusiastic and telling them ways in which they could make their acting better.

Within my setting I have seen the children practicing for a play which they will perform in front of the school and their parents. The four Primary 2 classes all joined together to create the play. It is based on their classwork topic that is all about farms. Each child has the opportunity to take part in different roles of the play. For example small groups of children will be dressed up as different animals and most children will have the chance to play individual parts. Also, every child will get the opportunity to sing the variety of songs involved in the play along with the dances and actions. This helped the children build up their confidence and express their feelings. The teacher encouraged the children to speak more clearly and show more enthusiasm in their acting to make it better.

We then got the children to memorize and act out stories. We also acted out Goldilocks and the Three Billy Goats Gruff. We also like to set up a hospital with a bed, doctors outfits and lots of props and act out what doctors do in a hospital. In my setting we also carry out drama in Circle time by bringing in our class teddy Jo Jingles to sing songs with us and carry out different drama games.
