Why did the pilgrims risk their lives to come to America? Well, there are many reasons why the pilgrims risked their lives and everything they had known to make a new life in America. One reason being they wanted more freedom. The pilgrims thought that if they were to leave their homes and travel to America that they could establish more freedom for themselves. Not only did the Pilgrims want freedom in their everyday lives but they wanted religious freedom. They wanted the freedom to practice their religion without harm or consequences. That was the Pilgrims American dreams, freedom in everyday life and religious freedom.

The Puritans of Salem, Massachusetts valued a religious life. They valued God and his teachings. The Puritans would go to extreme lengths to make sure they were not doing anything that would upset or disappoint God. The Puritans were in belief that God had a special plan for them and that they were in agreement with him. These values help shaped their American dream by giving them something to live by. They lived by Gods teachings and they lived by believing that God was working closely with them. This kept the Puritans in check almost. It kept them living a structured life style, that allowed for almost no mistakes.
