Best Practice (one intervention)

Glows:

• Students excel at answering evaluative questions, demonstrating critical thinking and deeper engagement.

Grows:

• Strengthen understanding and analysis of cause-and-effect relationships in historical incidents.

Best Practice:

• Implement consistent use of common language across all four years of instruction.

• Develop and display instructional posters featuring this common language in classrooms to reinforce continuity and comprehension over time.

Glows:

• The reimagined Regents exam is moving toward a more skill-based test that will help to students think critically and practically outside of the classroom.

Grows:

• Work to increase student motivation and confidence in attempting new tasks, gaining new skills, and learning difficult content.

Best Practice:

• Provide praise and positive reinforcement in the face of new curriculum, testing, and other tasks.

Glow(s):

• Students show understanding of graphing systems of linear inequalities and utilizing the quadratic formula

Grow(s):

• Students need to improve rewriting literal equations and using their ti84 for linear regression. (These are difficult topics that require a lot of steps and algebraic reasoning)

Glows:

• Students are good at reading/understanding informational and factual texts

Grows:

• Work on establishing common language/terminology across classes (i.e claim, central idea in ALL classes)

• Focus on close reading of literature (fiction)

Best Practice:

• Share vocabulary with teachers from other disciplines to implement (Modern Language and SS)

• Exposure to fictional texts, focusing on close reading with targeted annotations

Glow:

• Overall pleased with the results and achievement levels.

Grow:

• We are going to aim to increase our number of greens and whites.

Best Practice:

• Help students maintain a glossary of important vocabulary terms

Glows: Students seem to be able to identify organelles and cellular structures. Students can define and apply the definition of "homeostasis." Students can describe how energy moves in an ecosystem.

Grows: Students do not understand effective lab design. Students do not understand how humans negatively or positively impact the environment. Students do not understand the female reproductive system (more boys than girls taking the exam?)

Best Practice: Students cannot read questions, we need to beef up literacy skills.

Glows: 100% success rate overall on the exam

Factoring, Systems

Grows: Identifying zeros

Best Practice: Modify take-home assignments

Glows:

-We have access to usable attendance data that can be analyzed for patterns that can be addressed

Grows:

-Significant attendance issues persist among all groups of students (ELLs, SWDs, Low income)

-Mental health issues continue to be a primary factor for chronic absences

Best practice:

-Identify between 10-15 students who fit the profile of a student who is absent 10-15% of the days who have an emerging anxiety or school avoidant profile

Grow: Continue to give feedback for enduring issues, provide clear expectations and use existing writing organizer.

Best Practice: Metacognition with enduring issues essays, collaboration with writing coach, common assessments/pacing calendar, PLC

Glows : This specific Workout is designed to mimic the #CHAD1000.  Chad Wilkinson's widow created a Step up challenge that honored her late husband.  The Step up challenge is a 1000 repetition, weighted step up challenge. We modified this workout to accomodate all students during their PE and Health classes

Grows: We plan on introducing the effects of trauma, suicide and mental health awareness to these kids annually.   During the class we paused to engage students and offer statistics and relevant health facts and resources. This is an event that can grow annually.

Best Practice: Community Engagement and Civic Responsibility

Glows: Students are willing to receive further support if more resources are offered.

Grows: Students need more time with literacy to build confidence and competency with content.
