I believe that language is a system of communication that allows a let a message to be transmitted. Language can be verbal or nonverbal. It can be transmitted with words or simples or signs. Most importantly, it connects higher order beings so that something more beyond an individual self can be impacted. :anguage can work for the betterment or for the detriment of those involved, and is ultimately up to the receiver to decipher the meaning.

Language learning is the process of acquisition of a language. It can take place intentionally or unintentionally in a natural manner. Language learning takes place all the time, as those who use language are continually using learning its as it evolves. Language learning can take place in formal settings like a school or an informal settings like markets, stores, conversations, etc.

Language learning is ultimately about input and output in order to increase knowledge of language, there must be both! input being what is put in to the brain, mainly through listening and reading or some other form of visual input. Output is what is spoken or written, or expressed in some other creative way of showing meaning.

Finally language learning is developed slowly overtime and built upon with pre-existing knowledge of the language in some form. It is sequential, and also in line with a person’s physical and psychological development.

I believe that language teaching is the process of transmitting knowledge about a language from one person or one being to another person or being. It is primarily done through intentional or unintentional ways, intentional being through explanations pictures, graphs, explicit reasoning, etc.; unintentional ways would be through the natural absorption, e.g., every day conversations or through growing up in a language environment, etc. In unintentional ways, language input to the learner is done in a way that they are absorbing it without a specific purpose or goal in mind.

Language teaching requires a certain skill set for those doing language teaching. There is structure and methodology. Good teachers of languages are aware of their students and provide intentional learning experiences to meet what they, that is those students, need. Language teaching is always evolving to keep up with the changes and and specific to a time and place in language.

In my opinion, language = The way two or more beings choose to communicate. This can encompass verbal and non-verbal forms of communication, with the main aim being "Am I being understood clearly, or at least am I getting my point across?" This could be achieved by completing a 30minute monologue, or by something as simple as a shake of the head. Language influences and is influenced by; a persons culture, their identity, their perspectives, their interactions with likeminded people, their interactions with people they disagree with, their traditions, their climate, their personality, etc. Language is the means with which we persuade others to agree or disagree with us.

The process through which an individual develops the ability to express themselves in the world around them.

Human beings acquire language from the outset just like many other animals, by copying the gestures and sounds of those around them based on positive or negative responses. Learning what is or isn't an appropriate use of language, either verbal or non-verbal, normally happens throughout a persons life regardless of their age as opinions and perspectives shift, which in turn alters the likelihood of a positive or negative social response. People repeat things that bring them happiness or acceptance.

Language learning occurs both deliberately or unintentionally, as mentioned by some of the other posts above. Unintentionally being the more innate reaction to social reinforcement, or rather silently creeping actions that become second nature without realizing it - e.g. saying bless you when someone sneezes, using brand names rather than item names i.e., Kleenex rather than tissue, or using slang terms.

Language learning often requires both an action and a reaction to reinforce the learning process. Speaking and then listening to a response. Reading and then looking for answers within a text. Writing and then seeing how others respond to your words. Language learning can be tough as it requires a leap of faith into unknown waters - developing skills that could raise you up or falter if not done in a comfortable and supportive environment.

Language teaching, when specifically talking about teaching a second language, requires an individual to make the target language appealing and engaging to the learner. This can be through discussing engaging topics, focusing on real world situations, and exposing students to alternative cultures/ways of thinking.

Language teaching does not have a "one size fits all" approach as learners vary within nations and within the classroom too. Language is best learned when we are not even aware of it, a slow process that seeps into our way of thinking rather than an obvious 1+1 approach that students don't relate to as it lacks a human component.
