Berlin Wall

The Berlin Wall was a physical barrier that split the city of Berlin from 1961 to 1989. The Wall was built by the German Democratic Republic to prevent Eastern Berlin citizens from escaping to West Berlin. The Berlin Wall was controlled by the allied powers of the U.S, Great Britain, and France. The Wall was made up of concrete slabs, barbed wire, and guard towers, and was heavily guarded by armed soldiers. The Wall became a symbol of the Cold War depicting the split between communism and capitalism. In 1989, a peaceful revolution in East Germany led to the opening of the wall and reunification of Germany. Its construction sent a clear message that the Eastern Block countries, under Soviet influence, were determined to prevent the spread of Western ideas and capitalism. The Wall served as a deterrent for people in other countries who might have been considering embracing communism, as they saw the harsh reality of a divided Berlin and the lengths to which the communist regime was willing to go to prevent people from leaving.

December 1979, the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan in an attempt to support the communist government in Kabul, which was facing opposition from various anti-government groups knowns as the Mujahedeen. The Soviet invasion led to a protracted and bloody conflict that lasted for almost a decade. The Mujahedeen, supported by the United states and other Western countries, fought against the Soviet forces using Guerrilla warfare tactics. The conflict resulted in widespread violence, displacement of civilians, and significant damage to Afghanistan's infrastructure. The Soviet Union eventually withdrew its forces in 1989, but the war left a lasting impact on Afghanistan and contributed to the eventual collapse of the Soviet Union. Overall, the invasion of Afghanistan by the Soviet Union helped contain communism by exposing the limits of Soviet power, sparking international opposition to Soviet expansionism, and contributing to the fall of the Soviet Union. However, it is important to note that the invasion also had significant human costs, resulting in the deaths of tens of thousands of Afghans and contributing to ongoing instability and conflict in the region.

In the 1950's, a discussion between the United States vice president Richard Nixon and Soviet Leader Nikita Khrushchev. This debate, which was being televised and recorded, was arguments between their belief. This is an example of America containing communion under diplomatic initiative. The heated debate topics contained capitalism and communion in which the Soviet Leader would defend and critique the opposing side. An example of this is when Nixon showed-off a new model dishwasher in which he stated it would make life easily for women however Nikita quickly pointed out that his capitalism way of thinking towards women does not exist under communion. The overall debate, which was taken place at a kitchen in a model home, slowly started to angrily break the Soviet Leader due to Nixon's topics and American beliefs. This is expressed when both sides would describe their views on America. Nixon agurements were how well America had many benefits such as new Innovention like their colored TVs and military affects power. With the debate clearly showing the American debates by Nixon to all media such as television, radio, and newspaper.

Sputnik was the first satellite ever fired into space. This satellite was fired by the Soviet Union on October 4th, 1957 and it officially launched the space race. A makeshift race between the United states and the Soviet Union to see who could achieve superior spaceflight capabilities. All Sputnik was a satellite that sent radio waves back down to earth that could be heard through common household radios. But it really didn't do much other than that.

Iranian Crisis expresses a way America successfully prevented the spread of communion by military alliance. This event, that began during WW2, made Iran signed a treaty that allowed Britian, soviet and later America to enter the country, after six months once the war ended, they would have to leave. The reasoning behind this was because they were defending a heavy amount of oil from Germans. In 1944, Britian and the U.S began to want oil concession which led the Soviet to want oil as well. The decision whether they should give oil was never settled by regardless the war was coming to a end. Once the six months were true, the Soviets did not leave Iran which caused the crisis to occur. In the end, Iran made a deal with the Soviets which gave oil to them because the Soviets would not leave. This led to Iran going back on giving their deal with the United States, which the U.S deiced to take down their rebellion. In the aftermath, the Soviets were heavily upset at the United States but could not forcefully intervene due them not wanting a huge conflict with both the U.S and Great Britain, but they did attempt to craft fear by placing their soldiers back at Iran creating a furious setting between the two.

The Cuban Missile Crisis was a series of events spanning from October 16 - 29 in 1962. In short the crisis began after the failed bay of pigs invasion of Cuba where the United States tried to overthrow the Cuban government. after the failed invasion the Cuban leader Fidel Castro asked the Soviet Union for supplies and protection from the United States. In response the Soviet Union sends nuclear weapons to Cuba. Obviously the U.S. doesn't appreciate this so they set up a naval "quarantine" which was really a blockade so the Soviets wouldn't be able to send more weapons. This aggravates the Soviets and they keep building these missiles. The U.S then tries to send a manned spy plan over Cuba but is shot down by Soviet missiles, so in preparation for war the U.S. goes into def con 2 (basically get ready for nuclear war). But in order to avoid any war at all Robert Kennedy met with Soviet ambassador Anatoly Dobrynin and they agreed to get rid of the nuclear weapons in Cuba if the United States also removed their missiles in Turkey and Italy.
