In the story Shiloh, a boy makes a special bond with a stray dog and this dog becomes very important to him, just like Pax is important to Peter. He first noticed the rock wall that went around the property. These are very commonly found in New England. I know that some of the go back to when this area was first settled - they were used to mark the boundaries of farms. The bond between Peter and Pax is just like the bond between Beethoven and the kids. The Dad wants to give up Beethoven and the kids try different things to get their dad to keep him. They love him so much they would do anything to keep him. This statement helps me understand how close Peter and Pax are because they are searching for each other and its not easy.
