Food waste is a problem in most rich countries but rising in countries with less money. Over 3 billion people can't afford a healthy diet. In 1914, food waste began to take a rise, which meant more and more people started throwing out perfectly fresh leftovers that they could have used for a meal later.

That makes up to 18 million dollars a year wasted on food just because of school meals. Nearly 40% of all school meals are thrown away because students don't find the food appealing. About 940 Billion dollars are thrown away in economic loss annually because of food waste.

They decided that the older the food is the cheaper it would be, For example: if there was an expired bag of coffee beans then the price of the coffee beans would be decreased by possibly even more than half. This gives a motivation for people to buy older food so they don't need to spend as much money.
