While this movement normalizes the existence of obese bodies by promoting acceptance, it doesn't promote obesity as a health goal.

1. Its core message focuses on inherent selfworth regardless of size, not advocating for weight gain.

2. The increased representation reduces harmful stigma but doesn't equate to endorsing obesity as healthy.

3. The movement primarily advocates for equitable treatment, not for specific health behaviors.

The body positive movement normalizes obesity by ignoring health risks and promoting acceptance at any size. Firstly, it avoids addressing obesity’s health dangers, labeling concern as fatphobia. Moreover, some influencers praise unhealthy habits under the idea of self-love. Finally, by rejecting medical advice, it discourages efforts to lose weight.

The body positive movement aims to promote self-acceptance and challenge unrealistic beauty standards; however, it can sometimes unintentionally normalize unhealthy lifestyles, including obesity. First of all, while the movement encourages people to love themselves, it may discourage some individuals from seeking medical advice or making healthier choices. Moreover, certain messages within the movement downplay the serious health risks associated with obesity, such as heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure. Finally, the overemphasis on accepting all body types, regardless of health, can confuse young people and send the wrong message about personal responsibility and well-being. Therefore, although the body positive movement has valuable goals, it should also promote a balanced message that includes self-love and health awareness.
