This paper by Wilson illustrates the construction and ideologies that a colored woman's purpose in a middle-class includes domestic servitudes to their family and their race. The author sheds light on the racial injustices that the characters often faced and the limitations of women's freedom and identity.

Wilson's analysis would further expand on the Marxist Theory because of the conflicts regarding race, class, and gender identities of the characters domestic life. More importantly, Wilson uncovers Larsen's main focus on the roles of black women in the middle class. This will be utilized in my paper by making a connection to the conflicts that the characters faced due to the socioeconomic differences determined by the color of their skin.
