Yerkes was born on June 25, 1837 in Pennsylvania. Yerkes first job was a full time job as a clerk in a grain commission brokers office.  Towards the end of Yerkes life he was sent to jail for embezzlement. He embezzled $400,000 of the cities money.

He made most of hid money by smuggling southern cotton through the union blockade.  Fisk tried to corner the market on gold later on his life but fail when President U.S. Grant halted the black Friday scandal. Fisk then started backing Broadway shows until he was shot to death on the main stairway of The Broadway Central Hotel.

Cooke was a financier who helped finance the union war effort. Cooke also helped finance the postwar railway effort. Cooke was practically the accountant for the government during the war providing them with money. At the end of the war Cooke had acquired over $3 billion for the U.S. Government.
