I got the opportunity to spend my two week placement at Goodstart Morwell, it was a an amazing experience and I felt like a build wonderful relationships with the children and educators. One thing that our children loved was to listen to is music. One song the children loved was "Theres a turtle in our bathtub."

One day in the nursery room i got the opportunity to bring in my turtle to visit the children so they could to see a real Turtle. The children were very excited to meet little Franklin. We all got to have a hold/pat of him. Some children weren't afraid but others didn't like how he felt. Jagger and Jaxson were very interested in Franklin and they both tried to run away with him. It was wonderful to see that when Franklin first came out for a play there was a few children that didn't want to pat him and would move away from the area but after a while of watching and seeing that he is very calm the children would come closer and have a play with him. The children were very interested watching him swim around in his container. It was a lovely experience for the children to have. Its not everyday we get a real life turtle come to our centre.

There was a number of different questions we had from this activity, With the older children we spoke about what kind of food Franklin would eat? It was harder with a group of young children to understand what their thinking and try and build a conversation about it. However it was clear that the children were very confused with Franklin at the start of the visit but as they watched him they could see that he wasn't so scary after all. At the start of the visit no one wanted to come see him they were all running away from him but after I picked him up and showed them he wasn't going to harm them some children took more interest in him.

The reason why I choose to do this activity was because the children in the nursery room love to listen to music, they love sining and dancing. Two of their favourite songs is "Theres a turtle in my bathtub" and also "Baby shark" so we decided to stick with the theme of Sea animals and brig Franklin in so the children could meet a real Turtle.
I believe it is important for children to have experiences like this because it gets them to see a real life animal conpaired to just seeing it on television.

Something that really stood out to me was during this experience one of the little girls was very interested in Franklin and spent the whole time around me when i was holding him. When Quinn was picked up by her mum, i got the opportunity to talk to her mother and inform her about the vistor we had for the day, her mum was very excited to hear that Quinn was interested in playing with franklin and being around water because she had been stuggling at home with taking a bath. Later on in the week I got the chance to have another dicussion with Qinn's mum and she informed me that Quinn was loving her baths at the moment because mum had got her a toy Franklin to go in the bath with her.
I think this is a wonderful thing, something so small like a visit from a turtle can change how a child does something or feels about having a bath.
