Fortunate Son - Creedence Clearwater Revival

This is one of the Vietnam Era songs I chose because it is what comes to mind when I think of the Vietnam War. Almost every soldier was playing during their deployment, and the song became iconic. Ironically, it's an anti-war song, but that did not seem to skew its popularity. It represents the time accurately; a simple song with short lyrics.

Help! - The Beatles

This song is a little different than most songs associated with the war. On the surface, it appears to be about an individual that is struggling and needs help. There are many sad songs that have happy music, written in major keys, and this is one of them. It is very different from today's music because today's music is not influenced by 1965 society. At least a large part of the narrator's trouble is rooted in the world around him, including the Vietnam War.

I Contain Multitudes - Bob Dylan

I chose this song as a COVID-19 Era song because I think it is very interesting to compare and contrast Dylan's Vietnam Era songs with his modern ones. This song is heavily influenced by historical events, as can be seen in the lyrics. I believe that it is a comment on the society that we live in and the people that we produce.

Six Feet Apart - Luke Combs

This COVID-19 Era song is very literal and blunt when addressing the situation. While Bob Dylan may be poetic and metaphorical, Combs just sings about the current state of the world. This song very clearly talks about Combs's personal experience, and I'm sure that many people can relate closely. This is just a lighthearted song about about staying inside and the side effects of that.
